Speak Icelandic with confidence
Confidence is key
Speaking anxiety is a beast of a wall.
Our speaking courses prioritise breaking through anxiety barriers, unleashing the speaking skills you already have and building on them.
We do this with exercises inspired by performance arts, because nobody is as confident as an actor on stage or a singer in an opera house.
Learn to speak like a person, not a textbook
It's hard to speak Icelandic when everything you learned in your textbook breaks down as soon as you meet a real human being.
Natives soften some sounds, drop others, and blend words together. Learn the mysteries of spoken Icelandic, and sound like a native.
If it ain’t fun, I ain’t doing it
This is the most fun speaking course around.
Our speaking courses incorporate elements from all sorts of performance arts, like acting, singing, music, and even dance. It's effective, engaging, and as a neat side effect, it’s fun as hell!

Intimate and engaging
Whatever your level
Start Speaking
The Start Speaking course is our beginner course.
That’s beginner as in “how do I introduce myself?” but also beginner as in “I already know all the grammar and have a vocabulary of 20,000 words... but I’m afraid to open my mouth.”
Keep Talking
Maybe you've taken a few courses and you're already speaking, but you're driven to do better, to sound better.
Take an active role in improving your fluency and accent to sound more like a native, less like a robot, and have better conversations.
Lemme Linda
Icelandic comes to life when Lemme teaches it. She's been described as “a volcano of energy”, and there really isn't a better way to put it.
She's been teaching Icelandic for over 13 years, and this speaking course is the culmination of a lifetime of development. Pulling on an eclectic background in acting, music, and singing, as well as linguistics and languages, Lemme has truly created a whole greater than the sum of her parts.
Lemme is Estonian and learned Icelandic as an adult. She achieved a native accent, an achievement as impressive as swimming without getting wet, so she really knows what she's talking about when it comes to speaking excellent Icelandic.

Frequently asked questions
Here is the percentage of the cost you can get back from various unions. If you can't find your union on the list, don't worry: it's not an exhaustive list.
- 75%: Efling, Drífandi
- 80%: SSF
- 90%: VR, Framsýn, AFL, Báran, and Hlíf
- 100%: BHM, FÍN, Fræðagarður, KÍ, Sameyki, and Stamos
Please note that while this is accurate to the best of our knowledge, always check with your union to be certain.
It depends.
It can take as little as a day to be able to order at a café, if you’re Danish and have a good instructor. It will take multiple lifetimes to be able to write a doctoral thesis, if you’re Vietnamese and never read or listen to any Icelandic.
As a rule of thumb, though, it takes about 1-2 years to reach equal footing with natives for day-to-day communication, assuming you’re immersed in the language on a daily basis.
48,000 ISK for the whole course.
Most unions reimburse between 75-100% of that, though, bringing your out-of-pocket cost down to 12,000 at MOST.
Check with your union to see your eligibility!

If you're an independent learner on a budget, the self-study course might be best for you.
If you'd like more hands-on expert guidance and don't mind paying for the expertise, private classes are your best bet.
If you want to focus on improving your speaking abilities and like learning with a small, tight-knit group, the speaking course will be your jam.
Classes take place at Njálsgata 78, 101 Reykjavík.
Due to the active, dynamic, and involved nature of the instruction, our speaking course has to be in person. We unfortunately can't offer an online equivalent.
If you'd like to learn Icelandic online, you can try private classes or our self-study course.
